Curtis has grown up on Vancouver Island where he has been able to call a few places home. From the Northern tip of Port Hardy where Curtis was heavily involved in a variety of sports, he eventually chose to pursue hockey at a higher level, which required him to move to Nanaimo at the age of 15. After a few years in Nanaimo, Curtis ventured to Powell River on the mainland, where he spent four years playing junior hockey and found himself in a leadership role. “Having the opportunity to be recognized as a leader was very important to me, it taught me a variety of lessons and skills in regards to working with a team and how powerful teamwork can be.” As Curtis’ time in Powell River ended, he wanted to continue playing hockey and returned to beautiful Nanaimo where he would suit up for the VIU Mariners while attaining a post-secondary education.
